Sam C. Joy was born on June 2, 1931, in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised on his Dad’s farm along with a cattle operation on the north side of the Salt River Valley.
He attended Washington Grammar School on 27th Avenue and Northern Avenue and Glendale Union High School. He was given a track scholarship in 1949 to attend the Arizona State College at Tempe, Arizona. During this time, the 197th Arizona Air National Guard, of which Sam was a member, was activated and he served his country in the US Air Force close to two years during the Korean War.
He came back from the service and graduated from ASU in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture. After graduating, from 1954 to 1964, Sam farmed with his Dad in the Glendale area and in Mohave Valley, Arizona, converting desert into farmland.
He spent three years as an appraiser of farm and ranch property for the State of Arizona. In 1968 he became a real estate broker specializing in the sale of farms, ranches and recreational property. Sam retired in 1994.
